Mount Kilimanjaro offers six established routes for climbers: Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Shira, Rongai, and Umbwe. Among these, the Marangu, Machame, and Umbwe approach from the south, while the Lemosho and Shira routes approach from the west. The Rongai route, on the other hand, approaches from the north, near Kenya. All routes, except Marangu and Rongai, descend via Mweka. The 8 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climb: A Journey Through Remote Beauty The Lemosho Route, a newer trail, offers a remote and arguably more picturesque experience, albeit slightly longer and pricier. Starting from the Western side at Londorossi Gate, it provides a unique alternative to the more popular Shira route. Beginning with enchanting forests and expansive moorlands, the trail ascends to the Shira Plateau on day 3, merging with the Machame Route at Lava Tower before descending towards Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit. Along the way, fortunate trekkers may catch glimpses of buffalo, elephants, and other wildlife. Thanks to its longer duration allowing for better acclimatization, the Lemosho Route boasts a higher summit success rate, making it a preferred choice for many climbers seeking to conquer Kilimanjar

The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

Although during the day time it can be a little warm at this time, the Barafu or ‘ice’ camp really lives up to its name once the sun goes down. Summit Night: Your friendly guide will give you a warm wakeup call at approximately 11pm (depending how well you have fared so far you may get up earlier or later). From here you will start your ascent to the summit. This is the final push to the top and so your guide will take you at a much slower pace compared to your trekking the previous days, to make sure you have the best chance of getting to the peak, giving your body time to cope with the high altitude. Once you reach Stella Point at 5735m you really have almost made it- only another 45 minutes until you will find yourself at Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. Enjoy your time here, take in what will surely be your most memorable sunrise and celebrate with your guide
